5 Ways to Fake a Room Makeover

Posted

You may be itching for a room makeover, but that doesn't mean that changing the entire look of the space is a project you can fit in your budget or schedule. Besides, the room may not even need a full makeover. Maybe you are just a little bored because you look at these walls every day. Sometimes, just changing or adding one element is all you need to trick your mind (and your guests) into thinking you redecorated the space.

.

1. Wall Mounted Water Features - These are right up at the top of the list because they have a unique effect on a room that no other décor piece can really compete with. The sound made by wall mounted water features is very calming and the visual display naturally becomes a focal point. Add one of these to a wall, and people will be sure you completely remodeled again.

.

2. Furniture Covers - Having a little buyer's remorse because you played it safe with that neutral sofa? A furniture cover will completely change the look. When you want to change the colors in your room again, you can just buy another sofa cover.

.

3. Patterned Rug - People tend to remember patterns over colors. So, if you add a bright, colorful, polka-dotted or floral rug to your space, folks will probably assume you redid everything. Do choose your pattern thoughtfully, if you already have printed objects in your space. If you have decorative pillows with patterns, maybe cover them with solid covers to bring out the colors in the rug.

.

4. Wallpaper or Decal - Painting a wall a bright color might seem like the obvious solution, but why not take it a step farther? Add a decal of some sort to that newly painted wall to really make it stand out. You could also use removable printed wallpaper on the top or bottom half of the wall. If you are a renter and can't paint then removable wallpaper or a decal will be perfect for you. They will completely change the look of a wall without making a permanent change.

.

5. Curtains - Here is another easy way to incorporate a pattern into your space, if you don't already have one. Contrary to popular belief, you can definitely add curtains to windows with mini blinds. Also, curtains are not exclusively reserved for windows. Hang a rod near the ceiling behind your sofa and add curtains. You could leave them open and mount a canvas in the middle, so the art acts like a window.
